As I'm listening to this great musician sing a beautiful song (gorgeous, really) on his own facebook page, I see this horrible ad next to it. It's via youtube or something of the sort but next to this video on facebook on this fake timeline is a picture of a woman's ass in jeans and it says "Chat, Flirt and Meet Up tonight".
I keep trying to listen to this beautiful song, the lyrics, the melody and the emotion is unmistakable. However, I feel distracted by the ad. Not because it is compelling but because it angers me for such tawdriness to be put next to somethig so beautiful. I cannot understand the need for this new format or advertising on this already financially successful means of communication.
We all want to resist social media and yet feel compelled to use it. Certainly, there is some insane beauty to being able to leave a message for anyone you know around the world, or to communicate with those far and away. But for me this new format of adding random ads within the content is utterly distracting to the point of leading me far away from the platform. I have steered clear of rejecting social media all together as a statement. It's silly and pointless and, moreover, it's not progressive. The past is the past, let it rest, but the future is not advertising and utilising art as a medium for commercial means until it loses it's artistic integrity. I know the artist in question is not choosing his music to be heard next to the visual image of a faceless woman in tight jeans.
The future is not a black hole of anything goes for the almighty dollar. I'm not old fashioned, I'm just true.

Two weeks ago I decided to use the application on Mac called Migration Assistant which helps move applications and data from an old mac to a shiny new mac. Ever since this event (read: huge mistake), my Macbook has been acting like a toddler during the "terrible two" phase.
Went to the Mac store and they did a disk utility startup from the Mac OS disk which seemed to help but, alas, no, more problems ensued...Why did this multi-million dollar company create an application which is supposed to make migration easier and simply make a product that creates a myriad of problems? I have no idea. What I do know is most of my time is being spent trying to unravel the layers of stinky onion (many accounts on one hard drive) rather than making actual music which is what I woke up to do today. Yay!

Hey there, turns out I hate blogging. It's utterly boring. I will try to attempt this time-consuming mind-numbing task more often but I'm not making any promises. I am willing to post random inane pictures of New York which will hopefully ease the blow for the 3 people who are actually reading this. Album Recording Update

Hi friends, album recording is going really well. The idea of doing an album of Leonard Cohen songs and changing the genre of music has been something I've been wanting to do for a long time. It is a daunting task to take any great artist's lyrics, music and vision and make them your own. I thought it would be great or a disaster and I'm sure everyone will have their own opinions of it. I, for one, believe that my interpretations of what I saw the songs becoming were realized.
We finished the guitars, drums and bass recording at the beginning of this month with the fabulous John Hogg (on bass and guitar) and Hari Ganglberger (on drums) with musical direction coming from myself and Uri Djemal (producer/engineer extraordinaire) of Madpan Studios. Everyone's willingness to be experimental and enjoy the process made recording a very fun experience. We are now entering the home stretch for vocals and I expect the album to be released early next year. That's 2011 for those of you who feel that time is fluid (like myself) and therefore feel that it could be 1973 or 2049. I'm not sure what's happening most of the time! I am truly very proud of the album that we've all created together and I can't wait for people to hear it...coming soon...

Hey there everyone, the blog is finally up and running! I'm going to post my first full blog tomorrow. In the mean time check out the new video for the song Julian.
Here's a picture from the filming of the video at Guillemette's apartment in Paris! Her brother Lucas was generous enough to act as director's assistant and a walking ladder! The video was filmed by Michael Ingledew (message me if you want to contact him.) Thanks to all these great people I met in Paris, I was able to get a great video on my shoestring budget.
